annotations #2

Hosseini uses a combination of imagery and diction once again to show the reader in this part of the book how social and cultural values come into play once again. Laila and Rasheed have returned from the hospital after Laila giving birth, Rasheed comes into the house with an expression of anger on his face because he is disappointed Laila did not give birth to a boy instead she had a girl. The role of social and cultural values are shown here because it shows how having male kids are something to take pride in and having female children is something that is looked down upon in Afghan culture.
